Segmented Honeycomb Ceramic for RTOs

Segmented Honeycomb™ ceramic media from Lantec Products are an equivalent replacement for conventional honeycomb (“monolith”) media used in regenerative thermal oxidizers. While segmented and conventional honeycombs operate with equivalent heat-transfer and pressure drop characteristics, the innovative design of Segmented Honeycomb™ offers several key performance advantages.

Segmented Honeycomb™ allows continual air re-distribution throughout the bed. The gas has the freedom to move around blockages (minimizing fouling) at each interface, whereas conventional honeycombs trap the gas in a single cell which can become blocked for the entire height of the bed. Allowing the gas to mix laterally also helps maintain uniform temperature profile, improve gas distribution, and dissipate localized hot-spots from VOC ignition.

Segmentation also relieves thermal stress to minimize breakage due to thermal shock.
