Regenerative thermal oxidizers have gained acceptance worldwide as an effective and affordable VOC control application. However, increasing demands for RTOs means an increase in design parameter challenges. During the mid nineties, Lantec identified this challenge and began to develop a suitable heat exchange media for RTOs.

After nearly a decade of experience with RTO media, Lantec has gained acceptance with its Multi-Layer Media^® among top flight RTO manufacturers. MLM^® was developed to address the specific challenges of operating an RTO: managing thermal stress, particulate matter, and optimizing heat transfer while minimizing pressure drop. MLM^® withstands thermal stresses which cause other structured media to crumble.

The use of MLM^® has allowed RTOs to be built with shorter bed heights and less total capital, and to operate with less fuel consumption. In the case of retrofits, switching from saddles to MLM^® has led to fuel cost savings requiring a less-than-two-year payback period.
